About This Spot

Stepping into A SHA Tainan Main Restaurant is like entering a warmly remembered chapter of Tainan’s culinary story. Nestled in a quiet lane of the West Central District, the space balances a sense of history with the hum of friendly chatter and the inviting aroma of something lovingly simmering on the stove. The pace here feels unhurried, inviting you to settle in, share moments around the table, and savor the craftsmanship behind every dish.

The atmosphere is lively yet intimate, woven with the kind of easy rhythm that comes from hands familiar with time-honored recipes. This is a place where the vibrant patterns of Taiwanese tradition unfold not just on plates, but in the connections between people enjoying a meal together—young and old alike, families and friends gathered to discover familiar tastes with every bite.

Dining here is less about ticking off dishes and more about experiencing a flavorful journey through local heritage. From the rich depths of signature rice cakes crowned with succulent crab to the delicate balance of sweet and savory in handmade puddings, each course encourages slow appreciation and shared delight. Seasonal fruits and comforting soups appear as gentle punctuation marks, while specialties like stir-fried eel and scallion-steamed prawns speak of a kitchen deeply attuned to the region’s freshest ingredients.

There is a thoughtful generosity to the way dishes arrive at the table, whether you’re embarking on the full banquet experience or opting for smaller servings tailored to more intimate gatherings. The staff’s attentive yet unobtrusive care mirrors the ease that customers often find here—a place that welcomes unplanned visits and effortlessly makes space for all who drop in.

More than just a meal, A SHA feels like a quiet celebration of Tainan’s culinary roots: a place where time slows down enough to savor not only food but the simple joy of sharing it.

Very well known for traditional Taiwanese cuisine. The restaurant itself is a piece of history. Food is quite good with the set menu catered to smaller groups of people who also wish to try most of their famous dishes. However, I would still suggest go with a big group of people and order their signature dishes in big servings to get the maximum traditional Taiwanese banquet experience. A very good place to introduce Taiwanese cooking/culture to foreigners

The stars are given based on this single trip. The service was pretty good for sure. I didn’t make an early reservation, but they managed to squeeze a table for me. I really appreciated them. The dishes were awesome even though I didn’t get to try their signature. The only thing I can be picky about is the soup. It was too sweet. Oh, and it would be nice if the yummy fried rice was a bit more.

This is a very famous restaurant in Tainan city where you can get the traditional banquet dishes in the old times. The price is reasonable, dishes are yummy, service is quite prompt. We ordered almost all the signature dishes, in the end, the restaurant offers free dishes of fruit and desserts, very sweet.

Excellent Taiwanese restaurant with a wide variety of dishes, each one cooked to perfection. Everyone at the table from 7 years old to 84 years old thought that the food was great. Loved the pork ribs, and the sausages and fish chips and soups.

Heard so many about A Sha and finally visited it last time in Tainan with my family. That’s everything we had for 4 adults. We knew we couldn’t finish all and made up other mind to pack some of them home. Staff were friendly and smart helping us with packing! The food was great! They managed to bring the ingredients we are all familiar with to the next level. Highly recommended.

A friend recommended this well known traditional Taiwanese restaurant. Food: 4/5 - we enjoyed the steamed fresh prawns and chicken herbal soup. I was disappointed with the steamed mud crab with sticky rice. The crab was small and didn’t have much meat for that particular crab. The herbal soup was flavorful and tasty. Something my mom used to make. Service: 3/5 - lots of servers standing around but not as attentive. We had a bottle of sake & ended up serving ourselves. Atmosphere: 4/5 - bright and clean inside. They had fresh Easter lilies in vases. If you don’t like the scent as is, it may affect your meal.
